Very short AFTG one-shot.
Enjoy
The buzzer sounded for entry and Andrew Minyard walked through the gated door into the makeshift visitors center. His lips curled into a grin as he scanned the faces, realizing why he’d been disturbed in the first place.
Green eyes watched him, papers laid on the table in front as Andrew was guided towards Kevin Day.
“No touching.” Dave the Guard commanded as Andrew sit in the seat opposite Kevin Day.
“The Prince of Exy paying little old me a visit?” Andrew chuckled. “Who’d I piss off?”
“Can I ask you something?” Kevin Day asked.
Andrew’s grin widened. “It’s a free country, or so I’m told.”
“Why’d you turn me down before?” Kevin continued.
“Never been rejected before?” Andrew laughed, it was a sickening sound. “Don’t worry baby it’ll get easier.”
Kevin didn’t answer, simply leaned back in his seat waiting for Andrew’s response.
Andrew tapped his fingers against the papers nearest him.
“Been stalking me have you?”
“Just a little.” Kevin admitted. “You’re one of the best goalkeepers I’ve seen. I know you’re only in here for defending your cousin.”
“Partial truth.” Andrew smiled.
“And I can guess you hate the drugs.” Kevin said.
Andrew grinned and raised his eyebrows. “Lucky guess, Day.”
“Still waiting on your answer.” Kevin raised.
Andrew considered, the laugh forcing its way through his throat.
“I won’t take orders from your King or his Master.” Andrew finally said. “I hear you’re done with that now too.” He motioned to the other man’s left hand still wrapped in a cast flesh against his chest. “What’s the word they’re going with, skiing accident?”
Kevin flinched and glanced down to his ruined hand, his confident facade crumbling.
“I need help.” He finally admitted.
“With what, sweet prince?” Andrew giggled.
“I’m transferring to Palmetto. Their coach…knew my mother and has offered to rehabilitate me. You had told me before that you’d protect me from him if I asked.”
Andrew leaned back, watching Kevin Day’s eyes avoid his own. Pretty.
“Maybe I’ve changed my mind.” Andrew said. “Bit stuck here. Don’t know if you heard, but I’m a psychopath.”
“That’s what the paper says.” Kevin agreed. “Wymack is willing to bring you in while under probation. You’re meant to get out in two months anyways.”
“Can’t.” Andrew said, tapping his fingers to his temple. “Too doped these days.”
“We can fix that.” Kevin said quickly.
Andrew laughed, it was nearly sincere which made him feel even more disgusted with himself.
“Wymack is willing to work with you.” Kevin continued. He glanced towards the guards at the end of the cafeteria. “I can’t get into it right now, but he’s willing to bend some rules. And he’ll sign the other two if you want.”
“All this for one goal keeper?” Andrew asked, his head cocked to one side. “Boy he must be desperate.”
“What’s your answer?” Kevin was losing his patience, Andrew wanted to see how far he could push.
He leaned back, his smile burning his cheeks. “What else you got?”
“What do you want?” Kevin asked.
“A reason to live.” Andrew smiled.
“Done.” Kevin replied immediately.
Andrew laughed, throwing his head back as he did. “I’m not as easily pleased as you. Exy won’t cut it.”
“I swear to you…” Kevin leaned forward as if to prove his sincerity. Very pretty. “If you give me your game, I’ll find you a reason to live.”
Andrew bit the smile from his mouth, Searching Kevin Day’s eyes for the lie.
“Fine. Since you asked so sweetly. Get me out of here, get me sober. And I’ll save you.” Andrew agreed. “Good luck finding my reason to live. I’ve been searching and have come up O’s.”
Kevin huffed and nodded. “I’ll find something.”
***
Andrew pulled the coffee mug to his lips. The morning sun was streaming through their kitchen window.
He observed the man puttering around him. His hair was still messed up from sleep as he traipsed lazily through their apartment. Sir folded in his left arm like a baby, the other arm busy tipping a water canteen into the snake plant perched in their front window beside the wingback chair reserved for reading.
Neil sensed Andrew’s eyes on him from across the room and looked up, his blue eyes matching the gaze. His scarred cheek pulling up as he gave Andrew the soft smile reserved for quiet mornings and particularly satisfying blow jobs.
“Staring.” Neil teased.
Andrew huffed through his nose, taking a long swig of coffee and keeping his eyes where they were.
Neil sat the canteen down, shifting Sir to rest between his arms as the cat purred. He slid into the spot across from Andrew, resting against their kitchen island.
“Fucking Kevin.” Andrew finally hissed.
“What’d he do this time?” Neil mused.
Andrew clicked his tongue and traded cat for coffee as Sir climbed up to her favorite perch on his shoulder, ignoring the comfortable heat spreading into his chest and finding its home there.

Pensacola Prince Andrew, aka Matt Gaetz, has been defenestrated.
Good riddance.
The next weakest targets are the alleged rapist Pete Hegseth and the registered Qatari agent Pam Bondi.
The Democratic position should be communicated in simple words: an alleged rapist cannot command the American Armed Forces, and a Qatari whore, who cashed the checks of the government that harbored Hamas while they plotted October 7th, cannot be the chief law enforcement officer.
Hakeem Jeffries should make his members read the Monterey California police report into the congressional record.  He should apply maximum pressure on the weakest Republican members who know their place in the MAGA herd is on its periphery — on the outside. There, they run against the headwind, and feel the full force of the dangers that lurk everywhere.
There are a few predictable ingredients when it comes to creating political good fortune.
The first is luck. The second is your opponent’s incompetence and overreach.
Trump is overextended, and the transition plan has collapsed into a rubble of insanity 60 days before the inauguration.
He has taken his first step backwards, and will take many more.
The zebras on the outside of the herd are the ones who are most vulnerable. In this analogy, their names are Hegseth and Bondi.
The Monterey police report established beyond a reasonable doubt that Hegseth is an epic buffoon. Truly.
He may also be a rapist.
He seems to have a problem with women. Big time.
Something broke somewhere, and this ought to be explored psychiatrically and forensically under public examination before the Senate Armed Services Committee.
According to Reuters, Trump plans to decapitate the senior leadership of the US military in a Stalin-esque  purge. Guilt by association and kangaroo justice await the men and women who have spent their entire lives in preparation for immense responsibilities and leadership.
The good news is that behind them is another, and another, and another, and another, and another, and another.
On Thursday, Karoline Leavitt, Trump-Vance transition spokeswoman issued the following statement:
This report corroborates what Mr. Hegseth's attorneys have said all along: the incident was fully investigated, and no charges were filed because police found the allegations to be false. Pete Hegseth is a highly-respected Combat Veteran who will honorably serve our country when he is confirmed as the next Secretary of Defense, just like he honorably served our country on the battlefield in uniform.
Pete Hegseth should be brutally questioned about the US Navy and USMC and naval warfare theory, history, strategy and tactics.
The attitude of the Democratic opposition concerning his service in Iraq should be…wait for it…”We don’t give a f@#k.”
It doesn’t qualify him to be Secretary of Anything — let alone Secretary of Defense.
He should be derailed, mocked, humiliated, defeated and sent into a splendid exile on the Mar-a-Lago patio.
The whole lion pride should swarm the slowest zebra first — Hegseth — trip him, and then eat him.
When he’s gone and left behind as proverbial bones to be bleached by the hot sun on the Savanna, it will be time to give chase to Bondi.
She has fresh legs. Let her stretch them. She will not get far because she is running in Qatari quick sand.
I have said many times that Donald Trump Jr. is a moron and proof that nepotism is a very bad thing. It does demonstrate that Trump had some insight when he had some reluctance to bequeath his name, lest his progeny be “a loser.”
Junior has always reminded me of Uday, while Eric throws off more of a Qusay vibe. They are easy to mix up.
At any rate, they were a big problem for Saddam because, in the end, they were Saddam’s kids, and it was just going to be really hard for them to turn out okay — like Eric and Junior.
This is the point that really matters, especially if you are going to let Uday and Qusay pick the cabinet after their father buried their mother on the first hole of his golf course — after allegedly raping her years earlier.
You get the point, right?
This is all madness.
Make Pete Hegseth defend his depravity, his ethics, his unfitness and keep him pinned down. He is the top target.
Expose his profound and epic lack of knowledge, grasp of strategy, history and culture regarding the US military.
There is an old USMC saying: it is the 7 Ps.
It stands for “prior proper planning prevents piss poor performance.” This philosophy must be embraced by the Democratic Senate minority, led by the comically inept Schumer.
The US Navy and the US Army are two of the country’s oldest institutions. They are venerable. They are powerful. They will weather Trumpism if for no other reason than the NCO corps is as steeped in the traditions as is the general officers. In fact, from a lived experience perspective, more so. People who live without a North Star or a code do not comprehend those who do.
Let me tell you a story about the US Navy.
Think about this, as the alleged rapist and AAA-certified Fox News morning doofus gets ready to sink it:
This is the story of an elegant lady and her master. Her Master is a woman. She commands an American warship, a 44-gun United States Class heavy frigate, personally named by George Washington.
She was designed by an American genius from Philadelphia and built by New Englanders in a Boston shipyard.  Her bow has sliced through all the Earth’s oceans, across four centuries of time.
American merchant ships and their crews were being preyed upon by the British and French Navies and looted by barbary pirates.
The young Republic was dependent on trade and commerce. The Third Congress appropriated money for the construction of six warships under the Naval Act of 1794 to protect American shipping.
The construction of the ships was spread between six states and cities. Local economies boomed around the building of the most technologically advanced machines ever constructed on the North American continent.
They were the spacecraft of their age, marvels of science, engineering and design.  Though bigger than French and British frigates, they were smaller than the Capital ships of the great European naval powers. They were fast and their speed made them lethal under the command and crews of the born sailors who shaped the young United States and her Navy.
United States Ship is abbreviated as USS and precedes the name of an American Warship. What would be the names of the six ships?
It is an interesting question to ponder. Surely, the naming of these first American warships would have been imbued with meaning in 1794. We know it was not a trivial decision, and that it was made at the highest levels of government. The Secretary of the Navy submitted a list of ten names for consideration to President George Washington.
His office was as new as the country.  Since there was no precedent, the founding generation was forced to make it up as they went along. John Adams had proposed a style of adornment and address for the office that would have embarrassed a European aristocrat. Washington rejected the flowery titles in favor of Mr. President.
The naming of the ships was a Presidential decision, and they offer a window into what was viewed as important, significant and meaningful in a young country not yet powerful or secure.
The first ship was named the USS United States.
One was named the USS Chesapeake, after the great Bay near Washington’s beloved Mount Vernon on the banks of the Potomac River.
Another, the USS Constellation, signified the constellation of stars on the blue corner field of the new red and white striped flag of the United States.
One was named USS President. There was only one President in the 1790s. He was the only elected Head of State in the world and his name was Washington.
King George III was curious about what a “President” would become and what Washington would do. He was astounded when he was told that his rival would transfer power voluntarily and return to Mount Vernon. The King said that if that were true then Washington would be the greatest man of his or any age.
There have been 46 American Presidents. Grover Cleveland counts for two. There have been great ones and bad ones. Honest ones and crooked ones. There have been successful ones and incompetent ones. There has only ever been one that has sought to break his promise and hold power against the will of the people. There are many names for such a person. American President has never been one of them.
Another was named USS Congress. The Congress was a co-equal branch of government that stood equally with the Article 2 and Article 3 branches of government created by the Constitution of the United States that imperfectly imagined a new nation with a new system of government into existence. The Congress was comprised of the elected Representatives of the American people.
It was unique in all the world.
There have been 117 Congresses. They have been filled with American people from our greatest thinkers, leaders, statemen and women to our most sublime fools, imbeciles, crooks, cons, racists, ne’er-do-wells, seditionists and criminals.
In the end, the United States Congress and the great Capitol Dome under which it meets is an extraordinary living achievement, a symbol of democracy and a raging hot mess.
The sixth ship is the USS Constitution. The USS Constitution endures.  She survives.  She has been fired upon, hit, damaged and fallen into periodic disrepair. She was forgotten, but her contribution remembered by the American people when it was retold in verse by Oliver Wendell Holmes in the 1830s.
Her hull was lined by Paul Revere, and her masts came from long leaf pine from South Carolina. She was set to be scrapped, but was saved by contributions from America’s school children in the 1920s.
Today, she sits in a quiet corner of Boston Harbor. She is the oldest floating ship in the world and the oldest warship in the US Navy. She remains in active service.
Our divided nation is at edge, in an angry hour where extremism has seized power with a seething contempt for American freedom and the Constitution.
It seems significant and worth remembering that none of those first six ships designed to protect a fragile freedom were named USS Supreme Court.
A radical court has acted in the name of the Constitution by stripping rights away from a specific category of Americans for the first time in history.  It represents a type of judicial tyranny and societal engineering that is as radical and foolish as it is destabilizing.
The Constitution of 1787 was not perfect. It was far from just. It was, however, an incomparable work of genius that gave each generation of Americans a chance to create a more just society – to perfect the Union.
The American Constitution endures. It makes the United States of America a young nation and the oldest constitutional republic in the world.
Her namesake will fire a 21-gun salute on July 4th, 2026, to the United States of America in celebration of the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States.
She is undefeated. She is the USS Constitution.

Losing Control ( A Carlisle Cullen x BOC Story (Chapter 1: The Meeting)
The sun hung low in the sky, casting a warm, golden hue over the campus of Southern University. Students were scattered across the quad, some lounging on the grass with textbooks, others hurrying to their next class. Among them was Zuri, a 19-year-old English major with a passion for literature that was only matched by her curiosity about the world. Walking beside her was her best friend, Savani, who had a knack for making even the most mundane days exciting.
"Seriously, Zuri, how can you be this calm about today?" Savani teased, nudging Zuri's arm. "You're about to meet *the* Dr. Cullen. He's practically a legend!"
Zuri shrugged, adjusting the strap of her bag on her shoulder. "He's just a doctor, Savani. And I'm an English major, remember? I'm not even in his seminar."
"Yeah, but you have to admit, the man is hot. I'm tempted to fake being pre-med just to get a chance to be in the same room with him." Savani grinned, tossing her braids over her shoulder with a playful flick.
Zuri rolled her eyes but couldn't help the smile that tugged at her lips. Savani's antics never failed to amuse her. "I'm sure you're not the only one thinking that. But let's not get lost in daydreams. We've got ten minutes to get to class, and you know Professor Andrews hates tardiness."
They rounded a corner, the old brick buildings of the university towering above them. Zuri was lost in thought about the paper she needed to finish when she suddenly collided with something—or rather, someone. A soft gasp escaped her lips as she stumbled back, only to be steadied by a pair of strong hands.
"I'm terribly sorry," a deep, smooth voice said. Zuri looked up, her breath catching in her throat as she met the gaze of a tall, strikingly handsome man. His golden eyes held a warmth she hadn't expected, and his presence seemed to command the air around him.
"It's—it's okay," Zuri stammered, feeling heat rise to her cheeks. She quickly stepped back, realizing she had been holding her breath. Savani, ever the bold one, immediately jumped in.
"No harm done! You're Dr. Cullen, right? The new professor everyone's been talking about?"
Carlisle Cullen offered a polite smile, inclining his head slightly. "Yes, that would be me. I'm afraid I've gotten a bit turned around. This campus is larger than I anticipated. I'm looking for Lecture Hall C."
Zuri blinked, still trying to process how she had literally run into one of the most talked-about professors on campus. Savani, however, was already in full flirtation mode.
"Lecture Hall C? You're in luck because we were just heading that way," Savani said with a wink. "We can show you around if you'd like."
Carlisle smiled graciously, though there was a subtle tension in his expression that Zuri couldn't quite place. "That would be very kind of you, thank you."
As they walked, Zuri noticed the strange way the doctor looked in her direction, and0b. L her heart skipped a beat. It was unnerving, yet oddly thrilling.
"So, Dr. Cullen," Savani began, her voice dripping with playful charm, "I hear you're quite the expert in your field. What made you decide to leave Forks and come all the way to Georgia?"
Carlisle glanced at Savani, his smile polite, but Zuri caught the brief flicker of something in his eyes when they shifted to her.
"I've always believed in the importance of sharing knowledge, especially with young minds eager to make a difference in the world. This opportunity seemed like the perfect way to do that."
Savani leaned a little closer to him as they walked, her voice lowering conspiratorially. "Well, you're certainly going to make an impression here. A lot of students are already talking about you."
Zuri bit her lip to keep from laughing. Savani was laying it on thick, and she could see that while Carlisle was polite, he wasn't exactly taking the bait. But then, something unexpected happened. Carlisle's eyes met Zuri's again, and she felt a strange pull, like something deep inside her was responding to him in a way she couldn't understand. Carlisle, on the other hand, was struggling with something far more intense. The moment Zuri had collided with him, something inside him had shifted. His body had reacted—his heart, long thought still, had given a single, potent thump. It wasn't just an attraction. It was more primal, more profound. His blood felt like it was rushing in his veins, a sensation he hadn't experienced in centuries. He was a doctor, a man of science, well, a vampire actually... a husband and father. And yet, he couldn't deny how every fiber of his being was screaming at him for this young woman he'd just barely met a few minutes earlier. Zuri, with eyes big and brown and bright, seemed to pierce through his very soul, shedding light on the deepest, darkest, coldest parts he tried hard to push down. He felt vulnerable under her gaze and yet he wanted her to only look at him.
"I... I believe we're here," Carlisle said, his voice slightly strained as he forced his attention back to their surroundings. They had arrived at the entrance to Lecture Hall C.
"Right on time," Zuri said, trying to sound casual, though her heart was still racing. "Well, Dr. Cullen, I guess this is where we part ways."
"Yes, thank you both for your help." Carlisle's gaze lingered on Zuri a moment longer, a silent question in his eyes that he couldn't answer just yet. " I don't think I ever got a name, though."
"Savani Mikellson and Zuri Anders." Savani answered, flashing him one last flirtatious smile. "And if you ever need anything else—directions or otherwise—you can find us in Lecture Hall B, room 302."
Carlisle nodded politely, but as he turned to enter the lecture hall, his thoughts were far from focused on his upcoming class. Zuri Anders ... What had fate just dropped into his path?
Zuri and Savani watched as he disappeared into the building, and then Savani let out a low whistle. "Well, that was... something. Did you see the way he kept looking at you? I think someone's got a crush."
Zuri shook her head, trying to dismiss the fluttering in her chest. "He was just being nice, Savani. Nothing more." But even as she said it, she knew she didn't quite believe it. There had been something in his eyes. Something she couldn't quite put into words.
"Come on, we're going to be late," Zuri said, trying to shake off the strange feeling as she tugged Savani along.

Neil finds out Betsy's plan for Andrew.
Abby jumped and flicked a guilty look his way. "Neil, I didn't hear you come in." Neil ignored her and insisted, "Where are you taking him?" "Easthaven Hospital," Betsy said. "I'm going to take Andrew off his medicine." Neil felt the floor tilt beneath his feet. "What?" "It's not official just yet," Betsy said. "I need Mr. Blackwell to sign off on it. He was the prosecuting attorney at Andrew's trial. He's here now with Mr. Waterhouse to evaluate the situation. I strongly doubt he'll contest this, so we should be able to commit Andrew to Easthaven by this afternoon." "Commit him as in lock him up," Neil said. "When Dr. Ellerby and Mr. Waterhouse wrote up the original agreement they did it in a way that would garner the least resistance from the prosecution. One of the terms Andrew agreed to was twenty-four-hour supervision during his rehabilitation. Easthaven is one of the best hospitals in the state. He will be in good hands." "But for how long?" "Up in the air," Wymack said. "Andrew was scheduled for rehab in May so he'd be out of classes. It'll take time to get the drugs out of his system. Once his head's cleared the staff has to figure out the next step in his treatment, whether it's ongoing counseling or some new type of happy pill. Take Andrew's complete inability to cooperate into account and we're looking at maybe four, five weeks." "If we get him back by New Year's it'll be a miracle," Abby said, with a hint of her former frustration. "You're forcing him through withdrawal and recovery at the same time." "It's both or neither," Betsy said. "You know that." "Do it," Neil said when Abby started to argue again. His breathless command had all three of them looking at him, but Neil had eyes only for Betsy. He'd wanted to hurt her in the car for reinforcing the awful rules of Andrew's medicine. She hadn't defended herself because she knew she didn't need to. She knew just like he did how cruel it was to keep Andrew on his drugs, and she'd already reached out to the people who could help him. Betsy's smile was small and approving. "I promise I'll try. Wish us luck?" She plucked a new chocolate bar off the counter and led Wymack and Abby upstairs. Neil didn't really believe in luck, but he watched them go and hoped for it anyway.

A Warrior (Once a Soldier)
A friend (Aevi) of mine, gifted me with another fic of Reiner and Kristina. I feel like I am being spoiled. I hope I can return the favor one day.
This story was penned by Andrew Anderson and his website is: https://ibelieveinahappilyeverafter.com
The action scene, the action scene~
Title: A Warrior (Once A Soldier)
Author: ibelieveinahappilyeverafter | Andrew Anderson
Fandom: Attack On Titan
Relationship: Reiner Braun/Kristina Qual (OC)
Word Count: 2,213
Summary: Kristina has once again managed to stay late. This time, however, she has the bad luck to run not into Reiner Braun the Warrior, but into Reiner Braun, the soldier of the 104th.
---
Unable to help herself from signing the last of her paperwork with a gentle flourish, Kristina leaned back in her chair and sighed. It had taken her the better part of the day to catch up on all her paperwork for the Warrior program, but thankfully she had managed to get it done.
Pushing herself away from her desk and standing up with a light stretch (and a lot of cracks that told her she needed to up her personal exercise regime), Kristina paused as she looked around her office, the hallway that led out into the building, and then at her window. The ‘better part of the day’ had turned into late evening, which certainly explained why it had been so peacefully quiet as she worked.
Sighing and gathering up all her paperwork before sliding it into her desk, Kristina paused and then muttered a quiet, “Damn.” She had promised to meet Reiner in his office so they could discuss a couple of war strategies before presenting them to Commander Magath.
Finishing tidying up what she could, Kristina was quick to slip her outer jacket back on before leaving her office and locking the door behind her. She wasn’t sure if she hoped that Reiner had waited for her or if he had gone home like he no doubt should have hours ago. (The selfish part of her, of course, hoped that he would be there waiting for her with one of those soft smiles of his.)
Pushing that selfish part of her down, at least for the moment, Kristina quickened her pace until she was in front of his office door and then… paused. She couldn’t explain it, couldn’t even put it into words if she wanted, but something suddenly felt wrong. Cautious, she looked around the halls. It was as quiet and empty as it had been a moment ago.
Tensing herself, Kristina lifted up her hand and formed a loose fist (ready to either throw a punch or catch one) before knocking on the door.
“Reiner? It’s Officer Qual. You wanted to meet and discuss strategies?”
There was the very faint sound of movement behind the door, but no answer. That certainly narrowed down her choices on what to do next. There was definitely someone in there, but now the question was if it was Reiner or if it was someone hiding in his office when they weren’t supposed to be. Either way, it meant something was wrong.
Cautiously, and hopeful that everything was actually just fine, she knocked on the door one more time. When no answer came except more faint movement, Kristina took a breath and opened the door.
She was immediately dodging a fist.
Stumbling a few steps back before she regained her footing, Kristina silently cursed herself for slacking off on her training once again before she was lashing out with her own hit, leg coming up with enough force to hopefully knock down whoever had attacked.
When the faint pain hit, she focused to see that an arm had blocked her hit and the eyes of Reiner Braun were glaring into her own. She didn’t get the luxury of staring in shock or gasping, instead immediately moving when he lunged forward for another attack of his own.
She had been trained too hard to waste her breath on trying to ask him what was happening or what he was doing. No. The goal was to pin him and then ask him what the hell he thought he was doing.
“Marleyan scum! Where have you taken me!” Alright, she supposed they were talking, then-
Kristina’s arms ached as she managed to stop him in his tracks for just a moment, long enough to see a swirl of confusion and blankness in his gaze as he looked at her.
Something was wrong. Something was very, very wrong.
“Who are you?” Kristina asked, breathless as they separated and Reiner looked at her with contempt. “State your name!”
“I am Reiner Braun of the 104th, soldier of the Survey Corps and of Paradis!” Soldier. He thought himself a soldier.
Before she was even aware of it she was already moving, throwing herself at Reiner and ramming into his center of balance with enough force to have him falling backwards. She heard his cursing and swearing, but paid it no mind as she kept with the momentum, both of them hitting the ground with enough force to make her bones ache.
A burst of adrenaline as he jerked under her was the only reason she found enough strength in her to pin him to the ground by his wrists, straddling his waist in an attempt to not let him get back up.
“Reiner Braun of the 104th is dead!” She winced as her words echoed through the halls, silently grateful that the building seemed empty. Her words were, at the very least, enough to give the man under her pause. “You are not that man. You are Reiner Braun, a Warrior of Marley!”
There was something so painful in his eyes, Kristina silently thought to herself. It was as if he was inches from a death that would never be granted to him. The confusion had cleared, though, and there was a clarity to his eyes that had her releasing him and sliding off of him so she could sit on her knees a few inches away. Reiner slowly sat himself up, that clarity turning to something tortured as he looked at her.
“You are a Warrior,” she repeated, voice quieter than before, enough that she was half-certain he couldn’t even hear her. “You are not one of those devils from Paradis-”
“They weren’t devils.” The words seemed to burst out of him. They were quiet, still, and soft in a way, but they were at the same time frantic. As if they had been burning in his chest and never said. “They weren’t- Paradis, the people there- They were just people. They were just people.”
Kristina swallowed, unable to find it within herself to say anything as those eyes looked at her. When paired with the bitter smile he now had, his expression was half-crazed as he ran a hand through short, shorn hair. “Soldier? Warrior? No, I’m nothing but a monster. Do you know how many I killed? How many innocent people I killed? If anyone’s the devil-!”
Silence fell between them, but Kristina could hear the unspoken I am! that lingered in the air between them.
Finally, Reiner’s gaze dropped from her and Kristina felt like she could breathe again. Whether it was from her relief that he seemed to be back to himself or her guilt that she had been unable to say anything, she couldn’t know. (She had an idea of which was to blame, though. She was well aware that they were all human. All of them just people.)
“Office Qual.” Reiner spoke up in that flat, empty tone, any trace of emotion once there wiped away. “I will accept whatever punishment you bestow upon me for my actions on this day.”
And she could punish him. She was well within her right, seeing as he had attacked her with obvious attempt to harm. Hell, she should be telling Commander Magath about what just transpired. Moreso now that it was clear he had some form of mental instability which could bring harm to future missions he partook in. Instead…
Instead Kristina sat up on her knees, leaned forward, and wrapped her arms around Reiner in a soft embrace. “It’s okay,” she whispered softly, remembering a young boy smiling at her and an offered piece of candy. “Everything is alright, Reiner.”
It was faint, but she felt the man in her arms shift, a hand slowly and hesitantly landing on her back. Kirstina didn’t even try to stop her smile or the way her voice softened even further. “I know, Reiner. I know that the people of that island aren’t devils.” Everything around her went still before there was something between a shiver and a jerk, Kristina having a rough idea of what was happening when she heard the wet gasp of breath.
“How could I not know? Aren’t all of us human?” Of all people, she should know best that there truly was no difference between them. She had read the reports, seen the stories, was in love with one, and heard the first hand accounts. It was a truth that they — her people — didn’t want anyone to know or understand. “I know that they aren’t devils.” Taking a soft breath, she shook her head.
“I believe you,” she finished with a whisper, smiling faintly as she heard another hitched breath and felt Reiner wrap his arm around her in return and pull her closer. She felt his head rested against her shoulder, a drop of something warm and wet hitting her skin that she pretended to not notice.
“I believe you, Reiner.”
Slowly, after what felt like hours of the two of them curled up on the floor, Kristina finally began to move. Their fight, short as it was, had left her tired and faintly sore, and sitting on the floor for so long had certainly done her knees no favors.
Reiner was still silent, gaze locked onto the floor. Kristina didn’t force him to look at her, but she did pull on his arm and force him to his feet. “Come on,” she said softly, leading him into his office. “The building should be empty, by now, but that’s no reason to sit in the middle of the hallway.”
She heard a soft sound, something that could have almost been a laugh if it were any louder. She decided she would take what she was given and go from there, which meant pretending it really was a laugh and Reiner was no longer in danger of having a mental breakdown.
Still, she made sure to be careful as she gently steered him towards his desk chair, sitting him down before looking around the room. It was neat and tidied perfectly, far more than her office ever was, but that just meant it was easy to check and see if there was anything on his desk, any paperwork he had been told to do, that triggered… whatever that had all been.
“It’s not the first time,” Reiner spoke softly, startling Kristina and making her snap his gaze to him. She wasn’t certain if he had managed to know what she was thinking, but it answered some of her questions. “It… happens, sometimes. The haze. It’s as if I’m torn between two lives and in the moment I’m… never sure which is the real one.”
“But you seemed to come out of it quickly enough,” Kristina pointed out as she took a seat in one of the chairs sat in front of the desk. Somehow, with the desk between them, it felt far more professional and cold than she would have liked it to. (It felt lonely.) “Has this ever happened around people?”
“Once or twice. Only when I was in Paradis and only when I was with my team. The people who knew me as a Warrior. It’s rarer, these days, and usually only happens when I’m alone.” There was more he wasn’t saying — obviously there was more, but, still. He had said enough for Kristina to be reassured that this was something that likely no one else would see, and it was only bad luck that Kristina had discovered what was happening. “Officer Qual, please believe me that I never would hurt you on purpose, I-”
“I know,” Kristina cut him off, proud that her voice was softer and warmer than she once would have made it. “You’re kind, Reiner Braun. That’s why this is a problem, isn’t it? You’re kind, but that means the guilt hurts all the worse.” The desperate look she was given begged that she truly understand. “Alright, then.”
Filled with that warmth and softness that she didn’t dare push away, not yet, Kristina leaned forward and wrapped one of Reiner’s hands up between her own. His skin was cold and clammy, something that made Kristina squeeze all the harder. “I suppose that if I ever see you like that again, then I’ll just have to pull you out of it. As many times as necessary.”
There were no words to describe the look in his eye and it would almost be a disservice to say it was something as simple as gratitude. The wet sheen told her more than enough, however.
“Thank you.” His voice was a whisper, but his hands were steady when he brought up his other to return her hold. The way he ducked his head and rested his forehead against their clasped hands was the thing to finally make her feel that damning warmth in her cheeks. She couldn’t find it within herself to be too upset, though.
“Thank you, Kristina.”
“Of course. No matter what, everything will eventually be okay.” She didn’t know if that was true, and she knew it likely never would be, but it didn’t stop her from letting herself believe (if only for a minute) that everything really would be okay.
It couldn’t hurt to hope, after all.

On Christmas Eve 1968, as commander of Apollo 8 – the first manned lunar orbital mission – Frank Borman, who has died aged 95, came out with words that, alongside Neil Armstrong’s “giant leap for mankind”, from Apollo 11 in 1969, and Jack Swigert and Jim Lovell’s “OK, Houston, we’ve had a problem”, from Apollo 13 in 1970, defined an era.
In that moment before the moon programme became mundane, when astronauts were prime time, Apollo 8’s broadcast ended with the crew – Bill Anders, Lovell and Borman – reading the story of Earth’s creation as written in the book of Genesis.
It was Borman’s conclusion, “Good night, good luck, a merry Christmas and God bless all of you, all of you on the good Earth”, that clinched it. For Gene Kranz, Nasa’s chief of flight control operations in Houston, the phrase was “literally magic. It made you prickly. You could feel the hair on your arms rising, and the emotion was just unbelievable.”
Thus, for some, the traumatic 1968 of the ongoing Vietnam war, the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy, and the crushing of Czechoslovakia, had been transcended. From a distance – around 238,855 miles – it was still, apparently, the good Earth.
Around two years earlier, Nasa had been in crisis. On 27 January 1967, Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee had been incinerated on Apollo 1 during a test launch. Borman was appointed to the Nasa board which, that April, reported on the fire, slamming Nasa management and North American Aviation for its “ignorance, sloth and carelessness”.
Borman was then sent to North American’s plant in Downey, California – where drunkenness had been rife – to scrutinise command module redesign. “Borman set them straight,” wrote the second man on the moon, Buzz Aldrin, in Men from Earth (1989). “His shoot-from-the-hip management style – some called it bullying – worked.”
The Mercury programme had put astronauts in space. Gemini – to which Borman had been recruited in 1962 – had honed the business of Apollo: to fulfil President John F Kennedy’s goal of a manned moon landing by the end of the decade. In December 1965, Borman and Lovell had made their space debut with a record 14 days of orbit on Gemini 7, and also made a rendezvous with Gemini 6.
In the wake of the 1967 tragedy there were three unmanned Apollo launches, with mixed results. But in September 1968 the unmanned Soviet Zond 5’s orbit of the moon triggered alarm in the US. The Soviets had launched Sputnik, and the space age, in 1957. The first man in space, Yuri Gagarin, had orbited Earth in April 1961. That, along with the furore around the Bay of Pigs fiasco, had helped propel JFK into making his rash pledge in May 1961.
Seven years on, in autumn 1968, Nasa and the CIA were asking whether history was going to repeat itself. Would a Russian be first around the moon? That October, the Apollo 7 astronauts, Wally Schirra, Walter Cunningham and Donn Eisele, spent a successful, albeit cold-ridden and fractious, 10 days in orbit around the Earth. There were rows with ground control. None of those three would get another mission.
Nasa needed a breakthrough. Rather than the next planned Earth orbit, Apollo 8 was to be sent to the moon and, after the astronaut Jim McDivitt turned down the offer, Borman got the job. On 21 December, following a morale-boosting visit from the aviator Charles Lindbergh, Borman, Lovell and Anders blasted off.
Borman’s greatest fear, wrote Andrew Chaikin in A Man on the Moon (1994), was that the moon mission would be aborted and Apollo 8 would be confined to orbiting the Earth. It did not happen, but en route Borman was afflicted by vomiting and diarrhoea, the detrital consequences of which floated on, to be trapped by paper towels. The three men orbited the moon 10 times in 20 hours, descended to 69 miles above the rock’s surface, and were the first to witness the far side of what Borman called “a great expanse of nothing”.
It was on the fourth orbit that Borman spotted the Earth rising from behind the moon – an image that Anders captured on colour film and became known as Earthrise. “Oh my God! Look at the picture over there. Here’s the Earth coming up,” Borman is recorded shouting in a transcript.
Born in Gary, Indiana, Frank was the son of Edwin Borman, who ran an Oldsmobile dealership, and Marjorie (nee Pearce). The family moved to Tucson, Arizona, where his mother opened a boarding house, and Frank went to the local high school. He first flew as a teenager, in 1943. Seven years later he graduated from West Point Military Academy in New York state.
From 1950 Borman flew F-84 fighter-bombers with the US Air Force. A perforated ear drum denied him Korean war combat experience. In 1957 he gained a master’s in aeronautical engineering from the California Institute of Technology and became an assistant professor of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics at West Point.
Three years later he graduated from the Aerospace Research Pilot School at Edwards air force base in California. There, his aircraft included the controversial Mach 2 Lockheed F-104 Starfighter. It was in 1962 that, alongside Armstrong, Lovell and others, he became one of Nasa’s Gemini programme “New Nine”. Apollo 8 proved what had been evident to insiders for many years: that the US had won the space race. Borman, Anders and Lovell became Time magazine’s 1968 men of the year.
Having achieved the rank of colonel in the mid-1960s, Borman retired from the USAF and space flight and, after a sojourn at Harvard Business School, joined Eastern Air Lines. By 1975 he was Eastern’s CEO and a year later became chairman. But by the late 70s competition was intensifying, labour relations were deteriorating and Borman – never a diplomat – was in the firing line. He quit the company in 1986 when it was taken over by a corporate raider, and Eastern collapsed five years later.
He and his wife, Susan (nee Bugbee), whom he had married in 1950, moved to New Mexico, where he remained involved in business interests. They later settled in Billings, Montana, where he had a cattle ranch and rebuilt vintage aircraft. A supporter of Richard Nixon and both George Bushes, Borman was a man of brisk views. Among the many targets of his ire were the sound barrier-breaking pilot Chuck Yeager, the Democratic party presidential candidate Michael Dukakis and the scientist Carl Sagan.
He received many honours, including the Congressional Space Medal of Honor in 1978, and published his autobiography, Countdown, in 1988.
Susan died in 2021. His sons, Frederick and Edwin, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren survive him.

Disney's upcoming movie releases
Disney is releasing many movies in cinemas and on the Disney+ streaming service. Family-friendly prequels and live-action remakes of cherished cartoon masterpieces are also included. The business adjusted its release calendar for future movies from its different studios this week. To view every title coming out in 2019, scroll down!
The Little Mermaid will be remade in live-action by Disney and released in theaters the following year. The movie, which stars Halle Bailey (The Color Purple, Grown-ish), tells the tale of Ariel, a mermaid princess who strikes a bargain with a sea witch to transform into a human so she may experience life on land and fall in love.
Jonah Hauer-King plays Prince Eric in the movie, while Melissa McCarthy, who starred in Bridesmaids, plays Ursula. Oscar winner Javier Bardem plays King Triton, Daveed Diggs plays Sebastian in Hamilton, Jacob Tremblay plays Flounder in Room, and Awkwafina, the breakthrough star of Crazy Rich Asians, plays Scuttle.
Based on the adored animation classic, Aladdin will soon be a live-action film. Guy Ritchie is the director, Mena Massoud plays Aladdin, and Naomi Scott plays Jasmine. In this rough retelling of the Arabian Nights, Aladdin encounters Princess Jasmine and discovers a magic lamp (Naomi Scott). He only fully sees his value once she unintentionally releases a giant genie.
Both fresh recordings of the songs and a fantastic score by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken are featured in the movie. It also has many DVD extras, such as an entertaining interactive 3D tour inside the Genie's lamp and a virtual trip on a magic carpet.
Disney transports you deep into the African wilderness with The Lion King, their 32nd animated film. It relates to the tale of Simba, a brave little cub who will grow up to rule the jungle. One of the all-time top-grossing animated movies is this one. It has music by Elton John and Hans Zimmer and a cast of believable animal characters.
The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau, stars Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, James Earl Jones, and Beyonce Knowles-Carter as the voice actors. The successful animated feature Finding Nemo was followed up with Finding Dory. In a quest to find her family, she reunites everyone's favorite forgetful blue tang, Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres).
Andrew Stanton, who co-wrote and directed the first, is in charge of this. Thomas Newman, a composer for movies including Skyfall, The Help, and WALL-E, also contributed music to the movie. This tale of a fish in and out of water is full of emotional weight and recognizable characters, even though the plot doesn't attempt to rival Finding Nemo in terms of brains. Disney Pixar is a resounding winner.
Captain Jack, a down-on-his-luck character, senses the winds of misfortune blowing his way in Disney's newest swashbuckling adventure forcefully. He must now travel a dangerous sea in search of the fabled Trident of Poseidon, assisted by a clever and attractive astronomer and a headstrong young man in the British navy. As the swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp makes a comeback. His new castmates include Captain Barbossa, played by Geoffrey Rush, and the villainous Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem.
The first trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX, the ninth and final movie in the Skywalker saga, has been made available by Disney. The movie recounts the Resistance's struggle against the Galactic Empire and the malevolent First Order under the command of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Domhnall Gleeson, Billy Dee Williams, and Naomi Ackie, a debutant, appear in the movie. J.J. Abrams, who also authored the script, is directing it.
One of the most well-liked attractions in Disney history is The Haunted Mansion. It is a classic and has been around for over 50 years. In 2023, a movie adaptation of the attraction is scheduled to debut, starring LaKeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Jared Leto, and Jamie Lee Curtis, among others.
The narrative centers on Gabbie (Dawson), a single mother who moves into a mansion in New Orleans and learns about the building's extensive history of hauntings. She asks a priest, a historian, and tour guides to help exorcise her house.

Homestuck, page 77
[S] John: Play haunting piano refrain
youtube
(Pages including sound will be preceded by [S] in the command.)
Song used:
Showtime (Piano Refrain) by Kevin Regamey and Malcolm Brown
Song commentary:
Kevin Regamey: To be honest, I've fallen off the MSPA train pretty hard. This has undoubtedly been the busiest year (or two) of my life, and I am only now returning to reacquaint myself with what the heck is up. Malcolm wrote the chiptune version of Showtime first. I heard it, dug it, and created a piano arrangement just for the hell of it. Like Malcolm has said - earlier on, we didn't necessarily know what we were writing for, so we just wrote whatever spoke to us. I had posted a "Work in progress" version to the music boards, and I received some positive feedback. Positive enough for me to elaborate it into a full piece. As luck would have it, Andrew was finishing up the first playable page of Homestuck just as I posted the full version. As such, I was lucky enough to have the honour of first musical appearance in Homestuck, but most of the credit should certainly go to Malcolm - for defining John musically at such an early stage of the game, and for being the sole inspiration behind this track. Oh, side note: My midi keyboard was misbehaving when I wrote this, so every note of the piece was clicked into a sequencer. D:

Do not obey in advance
* * * *
https://steveschmidt.substack.com/.../strategy-memo...
Hegseth’s attorneys have said all along: the incident was fully investigated, and no charges were filed because police found the allegations to be false.

Green Bay Packers Work Out 6 Offensive Linemen
The Green Bay Packers are actively reshaping their team dynamics with strategic decisions. With an opening on their practice squad, the Packers are considering adding cornerback Robert Rochell, following the release that cleared room for wide receiver Romeo Doubs’ return.
Despite these roster adjustments, the primary focus during mid-week training was on evaluating the capabilities of free-agent offensive linemen.
The team assessed six prospects, including Keaton Bills, Zach Bailey, Andrew Coker, Mason Brooks, Matt Farniok, and Jack Wilson.
The spotlight among them is on Jack Wilson, who brings a unique athletic background as a former college basketball player.
These tryouts highlight the Packers’ ongoing efforts to strengthen their offensive line and enhance the overall roster.
The Journey of Jack Wilson and Zach Bailey in Professional Football
Jack Wilson is an intriguing prospect for the Packers because of his towering height of over 6’10”, which he showcased during the pre-draft process. Despite not having been signed by an NFL team before, his potential has certainly caught the attention of scouts.
Wilson’s athletic journey is diverse; he kicked off his college career at Oregon State, later moving to Idaho and Washington State, where he juggled playing both football and basketball. In 2022, Wilson made two starts at tackle for Washington State. By 2023, he was with Minnesota, focusing solely on basketball.
Meanwhile, Zach Bailey has yet to see regular-season action on offense in the NFL. However, his journey isn’t short of experience, as he’s been connected with six different teams since entering the league in 2019 as an undrafted player.
Recently released by the Atlanta Falcons, Bailey remains a player of interest for teams like the Packers, who are continually assessing their roster to better their Green Bay Packers odds as they aim for a successful season.
Profiles of Emerging Talents: Bills, Brooks, Coker, and Farniok
Keaton Bills, a 26-year-old offensive guard, might seem a bit older for a rookie, but that’s due to his LDS mission, which gives him a unique life experience. He had another year to play at Utah but chose to try his luck in the NFL. Bills was waived by the Buffalo Bills at the cutdown deadline in August. Despite being undrafted, his determination stands out as he vies for a spot in the professional league.
Mason Brooks took a slightly different path, making a name for himself at Western Kentucky, where he earned All-Conference USA honors. He later moved to Ole Miss for his final year. After going undrafted in 2023, Brooks spent some time with the Washington Commanders’ practice squad but got released during cuts. Although he briefly joined the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad in 2024, he’s still looking for a more permanent opportunity.
Andrew Coker, another undrafted rookie, was waived by the Las Vegas Raiders at the cutdown deadline. His talents, however, were recognized by the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions, who drafted him. Coker is keeping his options open, possibly heading to the spring league next year if the NFL doors remain closed for now.
Matt Farniok carries the most experience among these prospects. The center emerged from Nebraska and was picked in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He’s had the chance to start two NFL games in 2022, having been part of teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and Detroit Lions. Farniok’s established skills make him a valuable contender for teams seeking reliable offensive line depth.
The Takeaway
The Green Bay Packers are carefully considering their roster decisions. With 10 offensive linemen already on their main roster and Donovan Jennings and Lecitus Smith on the practice squad, any new addition would mean replacing one of these players.
The team is focused on strengthening their lineup for better performance, and every move is aimed at ensuring they have the strongest possible roster for the upcoming games.

Glass Animals – I Love You So F***ing Much
Most bands would give their left arm for the type of viral success that Glass Animals experienced on their last LP, Dreamland, that spawned the massive single called “Heat Waves.” In an interview with Clash Music, frontman, songwriter and producer Dave Bayley shared about this experience: “Life can change dramatically, but sometimes you aren’t able to change as quickly on a personal level. You end up feeling like a spectator. And then you are asked and expected to be a certain type of person, a different person. But…I wasn’t sure how. It confused me to the point of not knowing who I was or if anything was real.” What came off of this success is the logical follow-up album that sounds like a band leaning into that rewarding experience with a bit of a swagger, and possibly a chip on their shoulders, to prove that they aren’t a one-trick pony. I Love You So F***ing Much is Glass Animals’ fourth studio album and it vividly explores what it means to be a small part in an enormous universe that is ever-changing. What we’re left with is a smooth collection of ten songs that play off of each other majestically and is the most complete artistic statement that Glass Animals have created to date. ”Show Pony” starts things off on the right foot and sounds like a band understanding their successful formula that they crafted on their previous record, as Bayley smoothly croons over the mix. The chorus of, “Show pony, make it burn / Smile as the knife is turned / Show pony making a return / As we make our way through the universe / Show pony making it burn / That’s how revenge is served / Make it so cold that it hurts / I guess he’s right that you live and learn,” provides a bit of context to Bayley and his bandmates’ collective headspace as they begin to contemplate their place in life. ”Whatthehellishappening” follows the silky smooth opener with a more up-tempo beat, spacey production, and a cool contrast from the verse to the chorus. The second verse of, “True love, what a fucking beautiful shit-storm / But it makes me wonder who’s been driving us / One bump at speed and the trunk pops open / Just as I was getting comfortable / Man, are you serious? / My luck, my luck / Locked eyes with the kid in the car behind us / Put a finger to my lips and I smiled / And I pull it shut,” finds Bayley as an observer and he remarks on how quickly life can throw us a curve ball. It’s a relatable concept that most of us will experience at least one point in our lives, and the band puts this on full display here. The lead single, “Creatures in Heaven” has just about everything you’d want in an introductory statement for a new record: great production, a solid hook, and a memorable lasting impact. The keyboards from Edmund Irwin-Singer and Andrew MacFarlane combined with Bayley’s vocal performance is top notch, and they do a brilliant job of setting the tone for the track. The bass-heavy “Wonderful Nothing” follows in the sequencing and offers up some variety in the set that is filled with so many breathtaking moments. The song’s lyrics are a scathing response to the people who aren’t worth our time as the final verse laments, “You got big ideas, they’re as shit as you / Tryna self-combust, just for an excuse / Say I might throw up just to leave the room / I’d say, ‘Burn in hell,’ but they’d hate you too.” The second single to be released from the LP, “A Tear In Space (Airlock)” features a cool opening beat set forth on the keyboards while Bayley commands the song from the get-go. The elemental chorus of, “Water, running down my face / Water, running different ways / Water, like a billion waves / Water, just a tear in space,” sets the tone for the rest of the material that follows, and you have a feeling that the music is just flowing naturally out of the band at this point. The back half opens with “I Can’t Make You Fall In Love Again,” a bombastic track that opens with a casually strummed guitar before exploding into the chorus with atmospheric sounds and a backing… https://chorus.fm/reviews/glass-animals-i-love-you-so-fing-much/

2024 NFL MOCK DRAFT
FINAL - Thursday, April 25
ROUND ONE
1 CHICAGO (FROM CAR) - QB Caleb Williams (USC)
Caleb is going #1 regardless of which team drafts him. Teams in the top-10 like Washington and New England are sure to make juicy offers. Williams is the most prized QB prospect since Andrew Luck, and once the Bears shed themselves of Justin Fields, this was a done deal.
2 WASHINGTON - QB Jayden Daniels (LSU)
The Commanders will make every attempt to trade up one spot for hometown hero Caleb Williams, but the more likely scenario is they get stuck with their 2nd choice at QB. LSU coach Brian Kelly intimated that this would be their pick at #2. Daniels takes way too many big hits, so he’s going to remind Washington of Robert Griffin III. Let’s hope his career lasts a little longer.
3 MINNESOTA (PROJ. TRADE W/NE) - QB J.J. McCarthy (Michigan)
I don’t get it, but apparently NFL GM’s love J.J. McCarthy’s potential. I’m trying to predict what WILL happen, not what I think SHOULD happen. The Vikings move aggressively and methodically up the board for their new signal caller.
Minnesota gives up their two first-rounders (11 & 23) and a 2nd-rounder next year. The Patriots - even without Belichick’s influence - continue their tradition of trading down.
4 ARIZONA - WR Marvin Harrison, Jr. (Ohio State)
The Cardinals would be profoundly lucky to be able to stay at #4 and still get the 2nd best player in the draft. Harrison seems to be custom made for NFL greatness. He’ll be the best in the league within three years… provided Kyler Murray gets his act together.
5 LA CHARGERS - WR Malik Nabers (LSU) !
Jim Harbaugh will certainly want to establish a run game in LA, so an offensive tackle might be the choice here. But Nabers is a tool too tempting to pass up. Mike Williams was a cap casualty and Keenan Allen was traded away, so they certainly have a need for him.
6 NY GIANTS - QB Drake Maye (North Carolina)
Maye is nobody’s first choice, and his bad tape is really bad. But the Giants are dead-set against Daniel Jones going into 2024 with no competition. They give Evan Neal a 2nd chance (which worked with Andrew Thomas after a lousy rookie year) and pass on Alt.
7 TENNESSEE - OT Joe Alt (Notre Dame)
The Titans commit to Will Levis and give him a valuable protector.
8 ATLANTA - EDGE Dallas Turner (Alabama)
The Falcons have addressed their offense in free agency so they can turn to the defense in the draft. Turner is the edge defender they’ve needed for years.
9 CHICAGO - WR Rome Odunze (Washington)
The new-look Bears offense will need some weapons for Caleb Williams. Keenan Allen isn’t exactly “new.” This could be a potent connection for years.
10 NY JETS - TE Brock Bowers (Georgia)
Another new toy for Aaron Rodgers. Or at least one he’ll watch from the sidelines after he ruptures another body part on the first drive. The Jets have diddly at the position and Rodgers loves his TE’s.
11 NEW ENGLAND (PROJ. TRADE W/MIN) - CB Quinyon Mitchell (Toledo)
The Pats have a plan for the QB position, but it doesn’t involve passing on all the great players available at #11. They’ll take their top corner off the board and pair him with Christian Gonzalez to hopefully form the best pair of young d-backs in the league. Mitchell has wowed GM’s this post-season.
12 DENVER - QB Michael Penix, Jr. (Washington) +
The Broncos couldn’t make a deal for a veteran QB and they don’t have the muscle to trade up. They’re stuck with Jarrett Stidham and Zach WIlson as their QB options so far. They may opt to trade down and still select Penix, but in this scenario, they reach for him.
13 LAS VEGAS - DT Byron Murphy II (Texas)
Signing Christian Wilkins will help the team’s interior greatly, but they still need some help there. Murphy says he’s guaranteed to be drafted in the top half of the first round. Could be BS; could be inside information.
14 NEW ORLEANS - OT Olu Fashanu (Penn State)
The Saints have a long tradition of selecting offensive linemen high in the draft, and what a great time to have so many draftable candidates at #14 - at a time of great need.
15 INDIANAPOLIS - CB Terrion Arnold (Alabama)
The Colts make the most of what they’ve got, but they really don’t got a lot. Just about every position is a position of need, and Arnold might end up being the best corner coming out this year.
16 SEATTLE - CB/S Cooper DeJean (Iowa)
DeJean may be needed at safety with the losses of Diggs and Adams, but he’s perfectly capable of playing corner. That may be his future.
17 JACKSONVILLE - OT Taliese Fuaga (Oregon State)
The Jags have been unhappy with their line play in recent years. Cam Robinson is average when he’s not on IR and Walker Little is little more than an effective back-up. Fuaga slots into RT immediately. He’s an excellent pass protector but he could benefit greatly by moving to guard eventually.
18 CINCINNATI - G/C Jackson Powers-Johnson (Oregon)
Adding Trent Brown helps fortify the outside of the Cincy o-line, but the interior still needs a hand. Ted Karras is a free agent after this season, so they draft his eventual replacement. Powers-Johnson can improve one of the guard spots until then.
19 LA RAMS - EDGE Laiatu Latu (UCLA) +
It’s been a long time since the Rams had a pick this high, so they need to make this count. They add to their youthful D-line with a boost to their pass rush.
20 PITTSBURGH - DT Jer’zhan “Johnny”  Newton (Illinois)
Cam Heyward is just about done, and Larry Ogunjobi is easily replaceable. Newton teams with Keeanu Benton and DeMarvin Leal to form the Steelers line of the future.
21 WASHINGTON (PROJ. TRADE W/MIA) - OT J.C. Latham (Alabama)
The Dolphins have very few picks in this draft - including just two in the first four rounds. So they make a deal with Washington, and the Commanders select the left tackle they’ve been missing for years. They see the OT’s disappearing fast, so they package a few of their plentiful picks to move back into the 1st.
Washington deals picks #36 and 67 to move up to this spot.
22 PHILADELPHIA - WR Brian Thomas, Jr. (LSU)
A.J. Brown might have overstayed his welcome in Philly. If he’s dealt before/during day one of the draft, they might have a hard time passing up Brian Thomas.
23 NEW ENGLAND (PROJ. TRADE W/MIN FROM HOU THRU CLE) - QB Bo Nix (Oregon)
The Pats are fine with Jacoby Brissett as their temporary starter, but they love the potential of Nix. He developed incredible accuracy during his 47-year college career.
24 DALLAS - OL Graham Barton (Duke)
The Cowboys built their dynasty on the backs of their offensive line. Now that key parts of their 2023 line are gone, they’ll focus on a rebuild. Barton can train at all 5 position, but he’ll be immediately needed at center.
25 GREEN BAY - OT Amarius Mims (Georgia)
The Packers made the most of what they had last year, but their offensive line was in tatters. David Bakhtiari was elite, but injuries sapped his strength and now he’s gone. Time to rebuild.
26 TAMPA BAY - OT/G Troy Fautanu (Washington)
The Bucs keep getting hit along the interior of their offensive line. With Baker Mayfield getting the big bucks to re-sign with the team, he’ll need the help of someone like Troy Fautanu to protect him.
27 ARIZONA (thru HOU) - EDGE Jared Verse (Florida State)
The Cardinals need everything. Pick anyone. It’ll help.
28 BUFFALO - WR Troy Franklin (Oregon)
With the fire sale going on in Buffalo right now, it’s possible the team already believes they’ve missed their Super Bowl window. Jordan Poyer and Tre’Davious White were released, and both of last season’s starting wide receivers are gone. The restocking can begin here with a speedy Duck.
29 DETROIT - EDGE Chop Robinson (Penn State)
Aidan Hutchinson needs lots of help. They’re out of Okwaras and John Cominsky ain’t getting to the quarterback. Chop is a little smaller than ideal but he’s got great athleticism.
30 BALTIMORE - CB Nate Wiggins (Clemson)
The Ravens need to get younger at corner and quickly. Wiggins has outstanding instincts for the position, but his frame might not hold up.
31 SAN FRANCISCO - OT Tyler Guyton (Oklahoma)
Trent Willams says he wants to play for a few more years, but the Niners have an opportunity to train his replacement and acquire a top-tier backup.
32 KANSAS CITY - WR/KR Xavier Worthy (Texas)
With the legal troubles facing Rashee Rice - just about the only bright spot on the Chiefs wide receiving corps - Kansas City needs to grab one of this year’s elite WRs at #32. They might want to spend multiple picks on the position.
-
ROUND TWO
33 CAROLINA - WR Keon Coleman (Florida State)
34 NEW ENGLAND - WR Adonai Mitchell (Texas)
35 ARIZONA - LB Edgerrin Cooper (Texas A&M)
36 MIAMI (PROJ. TRADE W/WAS) - C Zach Frazier (West Virginia) +
37 LA CHARGERS - OT Jordan Morgan (Arizona)
38 TENNESSEE - CB Kool-Aid McKinstry (Alabama) +
39 CAROLINA (FROM NYG) - S Tyler Nubin (Minnesota)
40 WASHINGTON (FM. CHI) - EDGE Darius Robinson (Missouri)
